I have always not liked Apple and their way of doing things, i am a fan of Android
I like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7″, i hear there is a Samsung 10″ galaxy coming in April some time, I have looked at the Ipad2, i quite like it.
Have looked at viewsonic 10″ Tablet very crappy screen i dont like it at all. washed out and faded colors, compared to Samsung and Ipad.
What are your opinions..
I see there is a HTC tablet coming too… sounds very tasty
iPad 2 !!!
If I were you, I would wait until a 4g tablet comes and get unlimited internet from sprint, I don’t think it will be unlimited forever, such as AT&T 3g unlimited plan for the Ipad didn’t last for long.
If you don’t like the iPad then the Motorola Xoom is the best. It is the only one running Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) so far. Samsung should have one soon, but by June there should be several models to compare. Samsung will probably end up near the top of the heap because they supply many iPad components. I would stay away from any others out there so far because there is no guarantee that they can be upgraded.
I have a few that I would recommend and they have great price tags:
Samsung Galaxy Tab (T-Mobile)
*Fast 3G connectivity via T-Mobile’s HSDPA/UMTS network. (1700/2100 MHz bands, UMTS/HSDPA; see more about T-Mobile’s 3G service
*Integrated GPS for navigation and location-based services
*7-inch multi-touch interface (1024 x 600-pixel resolution)
*Powered by the Android operating system (version 2.2) with deep integration of Google services, access to thousands of apps via the Android Market, and support for Adobe Flash 10.1.
*1 GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor speeds up everything–from playing games to watching shows to opening files from work.
*Virtual keyboard
*samsung Social Hub provides one stop for all your updates integrates all your social networking services, messages, personal and business e-mail, calendars and contacts.
*3-megapixel rear-facing camera with flash captures still images and video that that can be edited, uploaded, and shared.
*1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat
next-generation Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity
*Ultra-fast Wireless-N Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g/n) for accessing home and corporate networks as well as hotspots while on the go.
I’m a pretty hardcore gamer and recently my laptop broke, i’ve been looking online for new laptops but have not been having such great luck considering i don’t know anything about computers. Unfortunately my computer picked a great time of the year to break (unemployed) so my selection of computers is low.
I want a computer that can at least run World of Warcraft at a decent speed (minimal lag, latency, fps, ect). My old laptop didn’t run WoW so great, i usually had to play with my settings set at low and it would be nice to have a better computer, but if nothing better can be found on this site i can go with something a little less, as in my old one.
I don’t have the model of my old one :/ and I must have a laptop.
I would appreciate all the help I could get, my price range is 500-700, i will link a few below here that i think would be good but i would appreciate it (if you have the time) so search the site for their other computers that may be better. I also must use hsn because of their flexible payment plans.

The first one that i linked had great reviews but for gaming, idk. Any help is awesome! Thanks!!
HP LCD computer.
dont buy a laptop for gaming unless its built for gaming.
heres what you do…
Go to newegg.com
find all the parts you need to build a beast desktop computer.
buy them.
build your computer.
pwn noobs.
for 5-700 you can build one hell of a desktop if you know what your doing.
Alienware is one of the best – no doubt about it
I have a laptop with this setup:
* Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26GHz, 3MB L2, 1066MHz FSB)
* 17″ WXGA+ Glossy LCD display at 1440×900 (Reviewed with a 1920×1200 WUXGA Panel)- Mine has the 1920×1200 Display
* NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS with 1GB GDDR3 memory
* Intel 5100AGN Wireless
* 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM (2GB x 2
* 320GB Western Digital Scorpio Black hard disk drive (7200RPM)
Looking at trading for a desktop with:
Processor = Intel i7-920 2.66Ghz
HDD = 840 GB total: 640 GB at 7200 RPM + 200 GB at 5400 RPM
Video Card = 1x Radeon 4870 1GB dedicated card GDDR5 (I believe), 1 of 2 slots in use, crossfire capable.
RAM = 6 GB DDR3 1333, 3x 2GB, 6 slots total, expandable up to 24 GB.
Motherboard = msi x58 platinum
Sound Card = PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro
Power supply = 750 watt
20″ Acer LCD Display 1600×900 Resolution- (I know it has a lower resolution, but I can always buy a better display)
This is a trade my laptop for his desktop pc. I’m wanting a desktop and he is wanting a laptop, i know the core i7 is a newer cpu then mine, but graphics card wise how is the 4870 compared to the 9800? Tell me what you think overall. Thanks.
I can use wired, and always buy a wireless card for the desktop down the road. I should have mentioned wifi isn’t much to me since it would be sitting on my desk and not moving around. ![]()
I can live without the laptop part, hehe. I’m gonna do it, if he dosn’t back out.
its good but your gona need a new grafics card like i recomend getforce 9800 the prosesor is amazing
ull be getting a faaster computer that one has more ram and will oost ur preformance but u might not be able to use ur wifi u must make sure its wifi if thats all u use if its not wifi compatible u will need to buy a dsl
I’d ay if you can leave without your laptop it’s a no brainer and go on with the trade.
If you don’t, I want to do it; tell your friend – I’d love to get an i7 rig.
This system offers tons of latitude for upgrades later on.
So adding a Wifi card is no big deal and you have the possibility to get Xfire.
This setup blows your laptop hands down!
toshiba m200 tablet get Hi guys, i recently built a gaming (not hardcore, just some light gaming) computer
here are the specs:
Intel i5 2500k
MSI socket 1155 motherboard
ocz stealth 700w power supply
xfx radeon 5850 black edition (factory overclocked)
4GB (2x2GB) dual channel ddr3 ram (i think it was like 1600)
1TB 7200 Rpm 64Mb Cache western digital hard drive
the rest isnt important (optical drive etc)
ok, so now to my question
i was playing some games that are fairly old such as counter strike source and call of duty 4 modern warfare (the original), both directx 9 games and yet im still lagging pretty hard on them
and yes i was playing offline so latency isnt the problem
i read on reviews that the 5850 black edition is amazing etc and it can handle games like crysis etc with no problem so im wondering why im lagging with these old games
oh yea, im running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and i already upgraded the drivers for my graphics card
and yes i uninstalled the first driver, reboot my system, ran driver sweeper, reboot my system, installed my new catalyst driver (11.1) and rebooted my system again
please help!
one of the main reasons i made this computer is to play those somewhat old games that i couldnt play before on my intel chipset laptop that well but the performance im getting is way too low for an overclocked 5850
all your advices are appreciated
um what detail settings and resolution are you playing at? you could have a bad card
post something at
www.tomshardware.com
people there can help u more than the people can help u here
You’ve got a high end set up. It should play those games fast. Try testing your set up by running 3D benchmarks;
http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/xfx_hd_5850_1gb_gddr5_pcie_graphics_card/4
If results are off those benchmarks, check your card with GPUZ.
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/
In my view, you need to get a better Graphic Card and download Reginout to sort out this issue.
Agree with Carla
I purchased a used Desktop PC with the following Specs:
• Operating System: MS Windows XP Home
• Processor Name: Pentium 4
• Processor Speed: 2.4GHz
• RAM: 512 MB (266MHz)
• Mother Board: MSI Socket 478 (http://www.tbreak.com/reviews/printpage.php?id=249)
• Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce 6200 256mb 8x AGP
• Storage Capacity: 80 GB
• Networking Options: 802.11a/g
• Primary Optical Drive: DVD-Burner
• Secondary Optical Drive: DVD-ROM
• Case with 450 power supply
I checked the computer before I paid for it and everything seemed to be fine with the exception of the DVD Burner which was not working. I changed the DVD burner with a Cd burner and Re booted the computer. I also upgraded the ram from 512 MB (266MHz) to 2 X 512 MB (400MHz) i.e. 1 GB Ram. After I did these modifications, the DVD-ROM no longer read DVD's only CD's (I think I need to put the DVD-ROM as the primary and the CD-Burner as secondary) and the computer seems to be running at the same speed even though I upgraded to 1GB (2 X 512 MB (400MHz) ram and changed the 512 MB (266MHz). Windows takes as much 4 – 5 minutes to load and I do not have any programs installed on windows except Nero. Running any program takes a while to load (i.e. Windows Explorer, Windows media Player etc.). I also tried to install a game (Need for speed underground) and it is also running very slow. What I would like to know is why my laptop, which has a slower processor, less RAM, a smaller hard drive, and many more programs installed on it, run faster than this desktop computer (windows loads in under 2 minutes and programs launch very quickly).
The following are the Specs for my laptop (a Dell Inspiron B130):
• Operating System: MS Windows XP Home
• Processor Name: Intel Celeron M 420
• Processor Speed: 1.6 GHz
• RAM: 512 MB
• Weight: 6.3 lb
• Screen Size: 14.1 inches
• Graphics Card: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 GM
• Storage Capacity: 40 GB
• Networking Options: 802.11a/g
• Primary Optical Drive: DVD-ROM/CD-RW
I ran a diagnostics on my desktop computer and it seems to be functioning properly. Ram is reading as 1024 MB, Processor is reading as "Pentium 4, 2.26GHz". I also ran Direct X 9 and the Ram it is reading as 1024 MB RAM, Processor is reading as "Pentium 4, 2.26GHz" and the Graphics Card is reading at 256mb.
It happens a lot with PC’s. I think it is just the way they are programmed before they are sold. I bought a dell laptop and it crashed after a yr and a half(which I only used it for school and surfing the internet). I then decided to buy a HP and it works fine, but it runs really slow and always has an error.
The point I am trying to make is, next time you buy put your money into a Mac. They are wonderful and are just a higher quality.
From your system specs, I can see immediately that your problem is the amount of RAM. 512 Megs is a pretty scant amount these days. Go to tigerdirect.com, they have great deals on everything. I build my own systems, and I get all my parts from there. No matter what kind of RAM your computer uses, you can find a great deal there.
Take it on up to 1024 megs, or higher, and your system should be cruisin’!
Also, make sure you don’t have a lot of programs running in the background, or in the system tray. That will also slow a computer to a crawl.
There is also the possibility of spyware and/or viruses. Those can slow a computer down to a crawl. Do a virus/malware scan with your anti-virus software, if you don’t have any, visit shinobiresources.com and download a program call Spybot: Search and destroy. It’s totally free, and one of the best on the market.
Remove the old RAM! Install a new power supply (Cooler Master or Gigabyte). Do not buy any cheap power supply, they are unusable although the shop owner will tell you that it will works fine.
Give this a shot. It will usually help alot.
A major cause of slow PC’s is fragmentation of the hard drive. You need to defragment the HD at least once a week if not more depending on how much you use your computer, and what you do with it.
One way is to use the defragment utility built into Windows XP. It is slow but does the job rather well. Go to:
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and then click on System Defrag to run the tool. It may take several hours, so let it run overnight or simply walk away from your PC for a few hours.
A great program for defragging automatically is Diskeeper Home. It costs $ 30 but is well worth it. Go to http://www.download.com and search for Diskeeper. Read the Publishers Description and the Editor and User reviews. It can be scheduled to run automatically as the program deems necessary, and if you are using your PC and the program launches itself, it will take a backseat to whatever you are doing and give you the priority for CPU usage. I think you’ll agree it’s a good program to have. It precludes your needing to remember to defrag at regular intervals.
Another major cause of a slow PC is programs that are running in the background. Software manufacturers write “.exe” files that help launch a program faster when you click on the icon. These .exe files are running all the time unless you shut them down, and they eat up your RAM and can leave you with precious little RAM to run your PC. The best thing to do is to shut down all the unnecessary programs that are running unless you specifically NEED them to be running “in the background”. If you can wait another 2 or 3 seconds for a program like Word, or Adobe, or whatever to open then don’t allow some of these “.exe” files to run. Each one you shut down, saves you RAM to help run your PC more efficiently. The following program, Autoruns, will allow you to control what runs when you boot up your PC.
Here’s a really good Microsoft tool. It's called Autoruns and it was written by SysInternals who were recently bought up by Microsoft. Before you download the program create a folder under program files called Autoruns. Leave Windows Explore open. Launch Internet Explorer and go to the following Microsoft web page. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/autoruns.mspx
Go to the bottom of the page and download the Autoruns program. After it downloads unzip the file (You’ll need WinZip or WinRAR to do so). You will see 4 files. Drag and drop those 4 files to the Autoruns folder you created under Program Files.
Once you have the 4 files in the C:Program FilesAutoruns folder you can double click on the file titled "autoruns.exe" (not the autorunsc.exe) to launch the program.
This will bring up a window with several tabs at the top. Click on the "Logon" tab. It will list the programs that are running on your PC and eating up resources. Look them over carefully and turn off any that don't absolutely have to be running. Simply click on the "check mark" in the little box beside the program name. Clicking on it will remove the check mark. Look for any program that your are not using at this moment that has a check mark in the box. Look for programs such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc. Once you have edited the Startup list, click on Apply and then on OK.
NOTE: Look in the publisher column and leave items that show Windows; System 32; Program Files; etc. alone. Also leave things that mention Audio, video, etc. alone. Shutting them off may cause some things not to work. Once you have exited the window, reboot your PC for the settings to take effect.
WARNING: Don't go into the other tabs and start deleting/unchecking things. You will probably give yourself major headaches if you do that. Stay focused on the "Logon" List only. If you happen to shut off something that you didn’t intend to, you can relaunch the Autoruns program and simply put the check mark back in the appropriate box, and then reboot the PC. The “program” will be reinstated to run at boot up.
Regularly clean up your browsing history, files, cookies, temp files, etc. A good program to use is Ccleaner and it is FREE. Get it here: http://www.download.com
Also, you need a "registry cleaner". The registry can get "defragmented and clogged" with various data that you simply don't need. The only effective way to clean this massive list is to use an automated cleaner. Go to http://www.download.com and you can search for Registry Cleaners. There should be several FREE ones there for you to use. One I’ve found to do a good job is named Registry Distiller.
Another good thing to have is a little program called FreeRAM XP Pro. It is free and is available from http://www.download.com This program puts a little RAM meter on the System Tray and shows how much RAM you have remaining that you are not using at any given time. I think you may be surprised at how little RAM you have to run other programs. Also, once it is installed you can right click on the little meter, then click on RESTORE and it will open the RAM display window. You can tweak the settings so it will display your CPU usage also. Then just click "Minimize" and then "To System Tray" to return it to the Task Bar.
What happens when you run out of or run real low on RAM is that the OS recognizes the low or no RAM situation and starts using a section of your hard drive as memory. This is called virtual memory, or a swap file. The PC is constantly writing and reading from your HD. Comparitively, it is a very slow process. Check your motherboard manual and determine how much RAM each slot can hold. It will also tell you what type of RAM you need. You can also go to http://www.crucial.com or http://www.4allmemory.com and run their analysis utility to determine what kind and how much RAM is installed in your PC. Depend on your MoBo manual to determine the RAM limits of each slot though.
Hope this helps!!!
click run in start menu, then type msconfig in a box. then go to tab startup and uncheck unnecessary program. hope this make your pc more faster. For more useful resources, go http://www.clickaudit.com/goto/?71493

I recently made a post similar to this one but i didn’t get the answers i wanted. I’m aware that none of these computers are for gaming but it’s all i can afford atm (with the flexible payment plans). I must buy one off of HSN, price range 500-700. MSI™ A6200-206US 15.6″ LED-Backlit Widescreen Laptop Computer With Intel® Core™ i3-350M Processor With Hyper-Threading Technology- $ 499 for a Combo deal with a free set of speakers and a free DVD player.

Or
Gateway NV5378U Refurbished Notebook PC – AMD Athlon II X2 M300 2GHz, 4GB DDR2, 500GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.6″ LED, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit- $ 399
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6077158&csid=ITD&body=MAIN#detailspecs
The Gateway is refurbished, and has slower RAM, but a larger harddrive, and it is $ 100 cheaper. If I get the MSI I can get a free set of speakers and a DVD player with it, and I would have the peace of mind knowing that it is new. Should I just get over it and stick with the Refurbished one? It has almost all good reviews, but I like the way the MSI looks better, but that is a lot more money since it is over my budget.
The Gateway only has a 3 month warranty on it as far as I can tell, and the MSI has a 1 year factory warranty.
Am kind of suspicious as to why there are so many refurbished Gateways, but also as to why I can’t find a SINGLE review on the MSI or even another store that carries it.
Gateway by far
If I were you I would go with the newer one too. I think it sounds more reliable and it seems you want that one more anyway. It’s also faster (RAM) and that’s a great thing to me. The MSI to me sounds like a better deal.
A good warranty is worth its weight in gold laptops.
Which one has the best/longest warranty ?
Apart from the MSI being new it also has a better spec. Has a faster processor, has DDR3 RAM over the DDR2 memory that the gateway has so you’ll see better performance from the MSI.
You can always replace the Ram. Speakers you can buy very cheap in a Dollar store (depends if you need a fancy one). Gateway is a very good and reliable brand. I personally bought a couple of refurbished products and they still work fine. Intel core processor is a good one but AMD is just a generic one and it’s good too. Widescreen is a big plus. In office depot they have good deals on computers I just purchased Toshiba Satelite and it has AMD processor. Check if you can extend memory drive and the Ram ( far a faster one) you can just replace it and get a faster computer. Good luck with the purchase.
What ever you do make sure u get the program disk from the store you buy it from. Personally if i were to buy a lap top I would go to a computer shop and have one built. That way you don’t get 20 some odd programs that have to boot up everything you turn it on. Pop up gal-or..eeee. I tried a walmart gateway and they got it back. Also if something goes wrong with it the shop can fix it while the others you have to fig way to get your hard-dive back and u may loose all the stuff on it.
Ahhh another case of too much choice!!!
Personally i would go for the MSI one from OfficeDepot. It may have a smaller Hard Drive (320GB compared too 500GB), but the RAM is faster (DDR3 instead of DDR2). As far as the processors go again i would be tempted by the i3 as the intel i range seems to be getting very good reviews!!!
Both look like they use on board graphics so neither are really gaming laptops.
But like you say, if the MSI is over your budget that makes your choice for you. You can’t buy what you cannot afford
To be honest you sound pretty clued up, but just make sure that the Gateway one is still covered. I am not sure if it is the same in the U.S but in the U.K you always get 1 year cover for new items. but as it is refurbished different rules may apply.
Oh, and be careful about replacing RAM like Eurogirl suggests. if the board is DDR2 is may not support DDR3. but the worst thing is you MAY void the warranty!!!
I would recommend you

toshiba tablet get I’ve been researching some gaming laptops to buy for college as a general purpose PC and of course, for gaming. I’ve narrowed down my search to two products in particular.
These models are:
ASUS G74SX-A1
http://www.gentechpc.com/showpages.asp?pid=1068
And
MSI GT780R
http://www.gentechpc.com/showpages.asp?pid=1043
Both of these have 17.3″ screen, but one is glossy and one is matte (anti-glare). Personally, I don’t know if I prefer one over the other, but people can give me pros/cons of each.
The laptops both utilize nVIDIA GTX 560m cards, which are the newest cards from the manufacturer. However, the ASUS has 3GB of VRAM while the MSI has 1.5GB.
The CPU’s are the same (Intel i7-2630QM) but the ASUS has Intel HM55 Express chipset and the MSI has the Intel HM67 Express chipset (both are 2nd gen. Sandy Bridges).
In terms of other features, the MSI features a customizable LED lighting for the keyboard and features a 720p HD webcam. Ergonomically, it sets up the “golden triangle” known to PC gamers by removing the MS key and it also features a touchpad lock key.
The ASUS is ergonomically in the angling of the keyboard and the rubberized coating applied to it. As an additional perk, it comes with a backpack and a gaming mouse, which is something very desirable for a college-bound student like myself.
Please, visit each products’ page and review the specs. I would very much appreciate an in-depth comparison of these two products before I purchase. Which ever one will be lasting me for an anticipated 4-5 years, but that includes a lot of traveling between Atlanta, where I will be attending college, and CT.
Any suggestions are welcome, and any recommendations for external/internal upgrades are very much welcomed, as well as recommendations for gaming peripherals (aka mice, controllers, etc.)
Thank you very much for your inputs.
It wouldn’t really make a huge difference for neither..
They are both VERY similar. The asus has and extra 500 mb (thats about how much my laptop has)-.-. the extra memory would help especially after owning it for a couple years. The gen tech has more ram though so that would help with gameplay. They are both very good laptops.
